Maria Church, an 11th-century Romanesque masterpiece, is also located here. Along the bay’s beaches, once a landing point and prey for Turkish ships, stand the 18th-century Guard Tower built as a defense against pirates, the Napoleonic Fortino, a military bastion now converted into a hotel, and the De Bosis Tower, built in 1716 by order of Pope Clement XI Albani.<\/p>\n
